Kasambira Primary School
Number of pupils : 1108 (524 boys & 584 girls)
School Motto : Education is the Light
Kasambira Primary School was founded as early as 1947 under the Church of Uganda and it is a government aided school. It is a large school with over 1000 pupils and 21 teachers.
When we first visited the school in 2010, of the 17 classrooms, 11 were in a very bad state and needed serious attention. There were holes in the roof, holes in the blackboard, no floors just dust, no doors, in fact the classrooms were just shells. As usual this created a major jiggers problem. There was only one working pit latrine for over 1000 pupils, which, as you can imagine, was woefully inadequate and teachers’ accommodation was another serious problem. We managed to renovate the head teacher’s house during 2011 – but there were 7 more houses needing renovation and some further needed constructing.
The SMC (School Management Committee) and the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) are well organised and very willing to support any projects. Thus, as funds have become available, we have supported the school. Most importantly during 2015 we were able to donate a bore hole. To have continuous water on site at a rural school in Uganda, is a luxury.
Johnson Bakisasa arrived in February 2018 and under his leadership the school continued to grow, including having 67 children in Nursery. In February 2024 he said: “that the many donations received from HvSMF have inspired both the teachers to work tirelessly and pupils to perform competitively to the best of their capabilities which have resulted in stable pupils’ performance and well motivated teachers”.
