Bupadhengo Primary School
Number of pupils : 1704 (855 boys and 849 girls)
Boarders : 1088
School Motto : Struggle for Success
Henry van Straubenzee was due to have taught in Bupadhengo Primary School in January 2003, as a volunteer with the gap year organisation Africa and Asia Venture . This was where our work started with the construction of 4 classrooms in 2004. Between 2004 and 2022 we have donated approximately £159,000 to this school which has contributed towards many projects.
In 2009, the school’s Primary Leaving Exam results were the best in Kamuli district for the fourth year running. They had 100% pass rate and 97% achieved division 1 and 2, with over 35% of children achieving the highest grade. Back in 2003 only 15% of the children were getting this mark. The enthusiastic and excellent then head teacher, Mr. Godfrey Samanya, had this to say, “This improved performance has come about because of the help the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund has given the school. Thanks to your help we have become a model school for the whole district”. The school has continued to be the best in the district.
Bupadhengo Primary remains one of our most successful schools. The enrolment is strong at just over 1700 children, with nearly 1100 boarders, and the examination results remain outstanding. The success of the school has undoubtedly helped our reputation in Uganda and is an example to our other schools as to what can be achieved.
In December 2017 Godfrey Samanya, the past head teacher, retired after a teaching career spanning 38 years. He is now the full time Charity Ambassador for HvSMF
The present head teacher is Godfrey Manda and we feel certain the school will continue to progress and improve.
