Busuuli Primary School

Number of pupils :  930 (440 boys & 490 girls)

School Motto :  Aim for the Success

Busuuli is typical of many rural schools.  The government built four good classrooms and the community were left to build the three additional classrooms needed to accommodate the school’s 7 classes.  Lack of money meant that these classrooms were constructed out of wood and mud which, by 2008, were falling to pieces.  Termites had eroded the wooden posts and chunks of the mud walls were missing. In 2008, we took down the old wood and mud classroom and built a new three classroom block.  The local community donated 25,000 bricks and agreed to provide our team of builders with physical help and lunch every day. In 2014 we renovated the block and added internal folding doors in order to provide a large assembly hall.

In March 2016 Joyce Ndimukika, who we first met in 2009, was transferred from another HvSMF school to Busuuli. She immediately requested that we assist with a proper kitchen and store! Since the school operates a good food programme ensuring that all pupils are given porridge, poshu and beans during the day. This obviously assists with the pupils education as a hungry child is not going to learn.

Enrolment has increased over the years, especially since the school received boys and girls’ dormitories and it also benefited from the construction of its own bore hole during 2018.

Joyce retired in June 2020 and her daughter Rebecca Kasuswa was transferred to Busuuli from Butansi Primary school. Rebecca has the backing of the school management committee and the community and thus the school has continued to grow under her leadership.
