August 2009 Over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, The Royal Standard, in Wooburn Common, Buckinghamshire, hosted their second annual beer festival, in aid of Henry’s Fund. This was no ordinary beer festival as, on display, were 14 watercolours, painted by local artist, Bob Thompson – a former executive of Times Newspapers and friend of Henry’s father Alexander. In addition, another regular at The Royal Standard, Jim Prendeville had produced a selection of wood carvings and walking sticks. After the last of the 4,500 pints of various beers had been consumed, a raffle of the art took place, which raised over £2,000. On top of this, donations from the busy drinkers and a very generous contribution from pub owner, John Meredith, produced a total gift of £3,000 to the charity. Our thanks go, primarily, to artist Bob Thompson, but also to landlord Mark Lloyd and auctioneer, Jack Hallett.
